Photographer's Note
When in this mostly Muslim village, at least this veiled woman dared to peek. Our Muslim guide told us "The lower the caste, the more likely they will be veiled". This was all before WTC and mass murder became commonplace. How sad things have been changed by the crazed zealots of whatever belief system. I enjoyed meeting the Muslims in India and in no case were any hostile towards me.
Some guy looked at one of my pictures the other day and protested to me that I had no right to photograph these people. Spare me from such ignorance.

Great shot, great people. That guy you mention should calm down. Which photo did he object to?

A beautifull shot. A beautifull person, full of life : it seems she is pregnant, doesn't it? Maybe some people can be shocked, but in the past, islam was not the kind of caricature integrism is transforming now. Your picture shows us a women that can show her arms, has traditional jewels... Indian islam was realy indian, in fact : tolerant in a country that shared so many religions until the 1946 partition. This women would be hindouhist I am not sure there would be so many differences... but the tissu on her head.
Maybe a little less brighter, a little more contrast would reinforce that impression of colour and life.
Thanks for sharing your memories, from B&W Japan to color India.
