Photographer's Note
Madurai - Paalamedu
Most probably many Tamil photo-reporters are coming to the Jallikattu to get more sensational shots like this but in fact it has nothing to do with the essence of the game itself, the man was thrown off from the back of the bull and felt unlucky right in front of it ... no harm was done as the bull ran over him without even hurting the man.
It's a pity that reporters often put things in a bad daylight wich feed others trying to take away the enjoymnent of common farmers and their rural traditions, an easy target, while keeping them poor and exploited. They can't go on strike as they earn too little but they stand togethetter to defend their traditions, more then others who are well off.

Great action shot, Henk, and very much in the old TE tradition of teaching us about the world, I thought this sort thing was exclusive to teh Spanish speaking part of it.
A rather late Happy New Year by the way.

Henk: right on. It's just sad that the BBC of all people do this sort of thing - with their budget! for the picture, your selective sharpening almost givesthe image a 3D effect. I know you're the master at this. take care and good luck with the 'image-thieves'. regards, c

Hi Henk.
I see, they have done again (violate the copyright I mean).
Maybe no the best of this serie, but also an interesting picture.
About the Spanish bullfight I must correct this is a mediterranean tradition, not Spanish. But actually in Spain they are more important.
The myth of the bull, in the Mediterranean, begins in the old Greece.
Regards.

Henk,
SO well Framed to have the action etched in our minds...
The colours actually frighten here!...
Some times I wish we could turn the copyright violators like the bull does here!
Thanks,
Prem.
