Photographer's Note

Continuing with my previous posts from Southern India, this is another shot from the Meenakshi temple in Madurai. It was late evening when the action started. By action what I meant was the elaborate everyday ritual of moving the deities from the main house (where you visit them) and retire them to their respective restrooms. It was quite an experience amidst sound of drums and Shehnai, the idols were hoisted on a palanquin and carried to the resting place. Soon after as I was about to leave the temple, I thought to take few quick last shots of the temple as I was leaving the next morning for Rameshwaram.

In this shot what you see in the background is one of the last deities being transported to the restroom as a woman offers her prayers. Shot hand-held at 1/10 F5

I have also included a photo in the workshop which offers a better view of the temple palanquin.
