Photographer's Note

Kuling is a tiny village located in the foothills of the Garhwal mountains of the mighty Himalayas. It is located on an increasingly popular trekking route to a high altitude lake called Roopkund.
The main activity of this village is agriculture and the villagers have sculpted beautiful terraces in the flanks of these hills. They grow a colourful crop which exist in shades of yellow and red and they produce grains that the locals use to make sweets that are offered in temples during prayers. These grains are called "Ram ka daana" in the local dialect. Several villages like Lohar Jung, Didina, Wan are located in this area and the farmers, who are used to these altitudes, move swiftly from one place to another either for supplies or to tend to their bit of terraced plantations.
This picture was taken at around 10 am and above Kuling, the snow-capped peak of a mountain called Nanda Gomti was visible.
