Photographer's Note

This bodhi tree, near the walkway to the stupas at Sanchi, was planted, as I recall, by India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.

Sanchi is famous, not because the Buddha did something here, but more because of what the Emperor Ashoka did. Regardless, it is one of the great pilgrimage sites for Buddhists - come to show respect for holy relics.
