Photographer's Note

It's cold and raining but she waits patiently with her scales for the farmers. She buys vegetables directly from them and takes them to the morning market to make a small profit. Enough at least to buy her food for the day. Tomorrow she will do the same. Living hand to mouth.

It is a bleak scene, presented in black and white, wet conditions and cold.

Oh ... your photograph is so full of pathos!
It's impossible to study it without having great sympathy for the lonesome lady.
The b&w format allows no colour into her life, whilst the huge puddle further emphasises her plight.

It shows China away from the bright lights of the modern cities. Such an idyllic image on the toils of life which I imagine is really very hard and so much different from our own. A great candid and it seems to lend itself so well to a mono version, giving it a timeless feel....
