Photographer's Note

This is a scene of a back street just within the bustling street-side markets of Tashkurgan city.

Tashkurgan is the last major town on the Karakoram Highway on the China side before crossing the border into Pakistan, which is the highest paved border crossing in the world at 4700 meters. Tashkurgan itself is at an elevation of 3600 meters. It is within the Tajik Autonomous County, and the borders with Tajikistan and Afghanistan are just a few kilometers west of the city.
