‘Bandar Seri Begawan - A new coat of paint for the Teng Yun Temple’

Not far from the Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque you will find the rather small Chinese Teng Yun Temple. Surrounded on two sides by very tall modern buildings, it appears even smaller than it is.
Still, it was interesting to visit the place of worship of this minority group in Brunei.

Chinese make up about 10,1 % of the population in Brunei. (The total population of the country is 441.000)
This makes them the largest minority in the country.
Chinese people have been in Brunei for centuries and came first as merchants. Since the discovery of oil in the 1920s, even more Chinese people came to work in the small country on Borneo.

However, this temple was not built until the 1960s. It is said to be the oldest Chinese temple in the country.
