Photographer's Note

A look from near the village of Xinaliq, high in the Eastern Great Caucasus mountains, up the slope towards the Baltaqaya/QizilQaya range; one of the peaks of this range is now named after the former president of Azerbaijan, Heydar Aliyev. The POV altitude is approximately 2500 m a.s.l., the range should be around 3500 m high. As you can see, the vegetation is not exactly lush, in fact this area receives scarce, if any, rainfall during the summer months. This is the corner of the world that, due to its remotedness and lack of infrastructure, sees very few visitors, let alone foreign tourists; as a result, the present upload is the first TE contribution from this mountain range in particular, as well as from any high mountain of Azerbaijani Great Caucasus in general.

For more information about the unique village of Xinaliq - see notes to this and this uploads.
