Light & Magic Ballintoy, a photo from Antrim, Northern Ireland

Photographer's Note

Another Composition of a beautiful double rainbow over Ballintoy Harbour on the north coast of Northern Ireland.

Ballintoy harbour was built in the eighteenth century by a trickster of the name 'Graceless' Stewart to allow the shipping of cheap coal to Dublin. In recent years the harbour has been upgraded and is very popular with fishermen and deep sea divers alike.

There is a little limestone built cafe (just under the rainbow)at the harbour and nearby a footpath along which you can walk around the headland to Whitepark Bay. In the harbour there is an old lime kiln which you can drive/walk up onto and eat you picnic.

Hi Stephen,

I'm looking at your pictures and I'm really impressed by the way you capture the light. Especially for this picture where the foreground reveals great details and catches our sight. The double rainbow in the background is very well defined and gives to your picture a very special effect. Astonishing ! Well done !

I must admit that sometimes I find it difficult to write a decent critique because of a simple fact that the photo is too good :) that's the case here, I cannot think of anything to say that would not be obvious to anyone opening the thumbnail - perfect colours and details, pleasing composition with the strong line leading the eye through the shot. but I particularly like the half-illuminated building on the left. great shot, thanks for sharing.

Hard Rock Halleluja, was the name of song the finnish Monster rockers won the eurovision song contest with. And I think it will suit in to this as well.
it is in a lot of ways an unbeliveble image. what more can I say You where at the right place at the right time and you had a camera and off cause you know how to use it

Phew!! You just go from strength to strength with these beautiful images - you can sell NI on your own!!! OK for sure - it's a postcard but it's a magical postcard of a professional sort which sings in a way which brings alive the fantasy of Ireland .......miraculously from the truth of the moment you captured..............lovely work Stephen and congratulations!

Dont know how you do to be always at the right spot at the right time... Maybe you just camped there waiting for the right moment to move on to the next amazing location (next submission?). Fantastic light, sky, wide angle... The polarizer made the rainbow really jump out. So you only post pictures here at night, when the light is no more?

Incredible light and moment. The play of warm and cool tones gives a really powerful push/pull to this beautiful scene. Even from the thumbnail, it was clear that this was a real masterpiece.

Irresistible image! This is so beautiful, with that perfect semi-circle of the rainbow and the dramatic lighting and dark clouds in the background - again, this image is a visual powerhouse, with lots going on, but never feeling overcrowded. Superb work!

I saw this picture in your ALAMY galler and i think this is the best from this series. Phantastic capture! fantastic colours and sharpness. I have a fhoto of double rainbow in my gallery but I am far from quality like in this picture

Hi Stephen. Is it possible that each subsequent photo of yours seems to excel on the previous one? That is not to say that each is not highly meritorious in its own way. Astounding photo and colour!
It's always hard to get a full rainbow, and double hard to find a double rainbow!
In such rare ocations, it's worth to hace a very wide lens!

So it's a good point to you picture!
