Photographer's Note

This week I spent a few days in Porto, second largest city of Portugal. A short time ago I posted a few scanned photos from a visit in 1984. I was so inspired by those photos that I just had to go back to see if, and how, the city had changed in those 34 years.

This is a view from the southern side of the Douro river, looking towards the old city centre. I liked the view generally and was happy to find a man standing on a roof that I could use as a focal-point. I don't know if he had climbed to the roof to get a better connection for his mobile phone, or if he had a job to do and his boss just called him to make sure he was using his life-line and crash-helmet.

Here is a larger version.

I took several photos and couldn't quite make up my mind which one to use, so I will show two alternative shots in the workshop, one with a horizontal shape, the other zooming closer to the talkative man.
