Happy 2012 to everyone! I'm up far later than I should be in the wee morning hours of January 1. Here's my first photo of the new year.

Beautiful Abrams Falls in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Tennessee. If I remember right, this waterfall has a greater volume of water than any other in the park. It was pretty powerful.

This shot was taken at 9:00 in the morning, when the light was still fairly golden and there were (relatively) few people about. The Cades Cove area, where the falls are located, is always busy, but early morning is the best time to visit, since the people that are there are a little more die-hard nature lovers and not the tourbus crowd. I was lucky enough to catch some fantastic light on the trees above the falls.

What a fresh and beautiful shot to open on New Year's Day Clark. I love your POV which benefits from the rock wall with fine detail despite the shade; it provides a good contrast to the sunlit vegetation. Your shutter speed has been well managed and you have managed to keep tonal detail in the falls which I like. May 2012 be an excellent year for you. Warm regards Rosemary

wonderful landscape shot with this falls...like the FG textured rocky stone & play of light on the foliage in BG...
excellent long exposure work...
good light management with nice color tones & sharpness...
