Basílica da Piedade, a photo from Minas Gerais, Southeast

Photographer's Note

Em 30 de setembro de 1767, Antônio da Silva Bracarena e Manuel Coelho Santiago receberam licença para construir uma capela com a invocação de Nossa Senhora da Piedade, no alto da então denominada Serra do Caeté. Em 1856, o capuchinho Frei Luiz de Ravena retomou as obras, ampliando a capela, julgada pequena para comportar o número de fiéis presentes nas celebrações religiosas.

Na Ermida encontra-se a imagem de Nossa Senhora da Piedade, padroeira de Minas Gerais, atribuída a Aleijadinho.

Ladeando a nave única encontram-se dois pequenos corredores, espaços antigamente destinados à pousada dos romeiros. Hoje, estes corredores laterais abrigam a Capela do Sagrado Coração de Jesus e a Capela do Santíssimo Sacramento ou de São José. Nelas, situam-se painéis azulejares com pinturas figurativas datados de 1996, concebidos pela artista plástica Maria Helena Andrés e executados em azulejos por Gianfranco Cavedone Cerri.

Em 2017, recebeu do papa Francisco o título de Basílica da Piedade, a menor basílica do mundo.

Oi, Lucas!

Você foi num momento oportuno, o exterior da igreja não está com aquela multidão de sempre. Ângulo lateral bem escolhido, mostrando toda a basílica. As nuvens volumosas dão um aspecto interessante ao céu.

Typycal South-American style church! That reminds me of my visit to Brzil in 1995 and to Meico in 2016. Very thick color touch is so impressve and panfocus appraoch gives so nice stability.

The large, white clouds and the blue sky are the perfect background for this charming little church. Especially its yellow parts stand out very nicely. You chose a good viewpoint as well.

O céu ficou uma maravilha assim bem polarizado e com essas nuvens mais grossas (como é chamado esse tipo de nuvem?), e a belíssima igreja mostrada com uma iluminação bem interessante e bonita! Hoje em dia tá ficando cada vez mais difícil encontrar o lugar vazio desse jeito!

Il y a quelque chose d'attirant dans cette composition. C'est à la fois lumineux grâce aux nuages blancs et sombre parce que le soleil se cache derrière. Mais l'église est prise sous l'angle parfait.

Hi Lucas,
it was hard to decide what should be exposed better here: the sky is fabulous so it was important to get all its details right but then the charming church is a bit in the shadow, if you would focus on the church -the sky would be probably loosing all the features. I think you made a right decision, the final effect is beautiful,

quel ciel aux belle formes blanche dans le bleu et quelle églsie et mise env aleur toute la profondeur voulue blanc avec les encaredment en jaune ces secalier devant et de côté quelle compo sueprbe.

Hello Lucas,

A superb 'big sky' shot featuring lots of puffy white clouds and some patches of blue as a backdrop. Goof sharpness and the strong back light has been well managed. The vertical yellow stripes on the basilica contrast well with the blue. Tfs!

This simple but beautiful basilica seems to be alone in the landscape. Therefore there is plenty of room for the beautiful deep blue sky with the bright white clouds in the background.

as nuvens já asseguram que estamos no topo da serra, parece mesmo que a igreja subiu aos céus. linda a arquitetura simples de linhas coloniais. bela foto, com a alma de Minas.

magnífica perspectiva diagonal de esta bonita y sencilla arquitectura de la ermita-basílica, que se destaca con una gran potencia gráfica sobre un cielo azul bellamente decorado con esas nubes blancas.
