Photographer's Note

I wanted to show these views of mangroves in Zanzibar quite a long time ago. I found them fascinating. Probably it will not be a success here...

How to travel?
Bringing up this subject, I will probably let the cat among the pigeons (English idiom).
Before the pandemic, I was maybe the most travelling person on TE (except maybe Kasia, but she does not write about her all journeys). During 14 years of my presence on TE, I visited 73 countries plus airports that I do not count. But I am most experienced in the ways of travel.
I travelled: alone, with one friend, with my family, with more friends, with small organized groups, with locally organized groups, with larger groups. So which is the best? There are persons here that say: NEVER with any group, I hate groups. Others say: NEVER alone, only with an organized tour.
For me, the most important factor to make a decision is LOCAL TRANSPORTATION. I do not ride a bike nor have a driving licence. There are many places that it is impossible or very difficult or expensive to visit by oneself. It is easy to travel to the towns but not so to national parks. I experienced it in Saudi Arabia – there were places that I could not see. Or could I see anything except Reykjavik in Iceland in winter?
Why do I like travelling alone? I like to be independent but also I like meeting local people, being immersed in their culture, to speak their language. Sometimes they invite me to their homes and this is precious to me to see how they live.
SAFETY – travelling alone can be dangerous – what if I was ill? Of course, I always have insurance.

COST – sometimes it is much cheaper to share the travel expenses with someone (taxi, room) or the group.
Nice groups are not as bad – I met many persons that became later my friends.

For me, the best is to go by car with my husband. Then I can go everywhere. I do not worry about home. The problem is that he likes travelling only once a year..

After my adventures in Indonesia in the outbreak of the pandemic I look at the problem differently. I just can’t imagine what would happen to me if I was left alone. I appreciate that there was someone who took the right decision about the return.
What do you think?

My last? Who knows...
