Il y a l'attrait de la modernité et puis la tradition.
Il y a ceux qui regardent le passé sans comprendre l'avenir.
Il y a l'animisme et l'Islam.
Il y a la frime et la faim.
Il y a la violence et les sages.
Il y a la natalité galopante et la mort qui rode.
Il y a l'arbre à palabre et la musique des tam tams.
Il n'y a pas une Afrique.
Elle est plurielle.

There is Africa of the cities and Africa of the bush. There is the attraction of modernity and then the tradition.
There are those which look at the past without understanding the future.
There is the animism and the Islam.
There is brags it and the hunger.
There is violence and the wise ones.
There is the gallop birthrate and the death which grinds.
There are the trees with palaver and the music of the tam tams.
There is not one Africa.
It is plural.

Salut mon voisin du jour
Alors tu l'as acheté ton 70 300 DO ? Je savais meme pas que ca existait chez Canon avant de lire ton commentaire sur cet objectif qui semble vraiment excellent avec un flou d'arrrière plan très doux. Cette photo est une reelle réussite et je remarque bien l'exploit qui consiste à rendre nette 2 personnes qui ne se trouvent pas sur le même plan focal tout en ayant un bon bokeh. Du grand art !

Very good take, Bertrand! The shirt, the shirt does most of the punch here...so western, vulgar in some way, the need to share and to get feedback from the surroundings - the young will always be ahead of the older generation, the veterans, those who carry their belongings as it was a custom for 1000 year. I must say that even the girl with her back to us is dressed quite modernly...Good tight crop and use of aperture to get both women in focus (more or less). Exposure control is also excellent and your timing is just spot on!

J'aime bien ces reflexions sur fond d'Afrique, l'image est belle comme la jeune femme moderne qui déambule en rencontrant sa consoeur traditionelle, toutes les contrastes sont bien résumés.

ta photo nous montre que le modernisme a touché les africains, les habits sont plutot européen, belle lumiére qui met bien en valeur les personnages, le zoom a bien écrasé les distances entre les deux sujets

J'arrive un peu tard pour faire un commentaire intéressant...;)) Superbe image, avec une excellente maîtrise technique. Le sujet est fantastique, la note qui l'accompagne aussi: certes l'Afrique est plurielle, c'est peut-être là aussi son problème: des mondes qui se côtoient, ne veulent pas se voir (cf ta photo) et qui n'arrivent pas à tirer de cette diversité et de ces richesses le meilleur et la force pour regarder l'avenir. Il faut dire aussi que le reste du monde ne fait pas de son mieux pour Elle non plus

Ca "chaloupe" à st Louis on dirait..
Sinon,je ne vois pas trop d'opposition entre ces 2 femmes,la" moderne" et la "traditionnelle",seulement quelques années sans doute.et pour ma part si la jeunette est "sexy",je trouve l'autre femme plus sensuelle dans son allure,enfin,plus africaine surtout.Reste que c'est bien vu ça.

Deux visages de l'Afrique réunis dans cette photo. Bravo pour la composition et comme le souligne fayeulle, bravo pour la dof que tu maîtrises parfaitement avec cet objectif dans laquelle les deux filles qui ne sont pas sur le même plan sont nettes et semblent se détacher de l'arrrière-plan, voire même flotter. Bokeh très doux.
Une photo de très grande qualité que je mets dans mes favoris pour cette raison

Une belle illustration du contraste africain, entre tradition et modernité. Une prise de vue très bien équilibrée et d'une qualité remarquable (semble bien marcher cet objectif?).
Les couleurs et l'ambiance sont bien restituées et ton cadrage est vraiment très bien pensé, bien que tu es été bien aidé par tes modèles d'un jour.

The way the girl coming towards us in her modern t-shirt is looking away, also away from the traditionally clad woman carrying a plate on her head, resonates in every way with what you so well and poetically describe in your note. le monde est un paradoxe en soi, donc, il n'y a rien d'etonnant a voir ce genre d'opposition.
tu nous proposesle senegal, mais je pense que dans tous les pays du monde c'est present...(encore que, dans les pays musulmans ou la charria est de rigueur, ce doit etre plus difficile..)

Waouhhhh, une sacrée qualité dans cette image, des teintes magnifiques, une position du corps de la miss du fond qui est excellente, un contraste entre les 2 types d'habillement,.....elle est vraiment bonne ta photo, je l'adoe !
Le bokeh est de toute beauté et laisse bien ressortir les 2 sujets, c'est super bien fait.
Rien à dire...à part un grand Bravo

This is absolutely perfect photo. Several dozens of people have written critiques, so it's hard the add something more that You were in right place in the right time. Excellent moment caught here. This POV is just brilliant and your observation is superb! On this dynamic shot everything looks to be very well composed and I could almost suppose that you've stopped the time to take this shot. Just one example: one woman is in the shadow, the other one in the light and it give an extra feeling to this photo. I Really Like IT!!!

What a wonderful capture of this contrast between contemporary and traditional dress, Bertrand. You don't strike me as an 'auto' man, so I assume full credit should go to you for selection of the aperture to give you a DOF for this shot which is close to perfect. Cheers . . . David
