catching shadow, a photo from Marrakech, South

Photographer's Note

Je poursuis ma mini série sur les ombres et lumières avec cette photo d'un mur au pied de la koutoubia où le soleil de fin de journée offrait un jeu d'ombre intéressant avec cette petite lampe ... J'ai attendu qq temps que qqn passe afin de rajouter une petite touche humaine à cette composition. La couleur ocre / rouge omniprésente à Marrakech sur les murs est vraiment photogénique, je ne peux que vous insciter a vous y rendre, cette ville est une merveille :-)

I'm following my mini serie of "light / shadow in marrakech" with this red wall picture just near of Koutoubia monument. The end of day sun was offering a nice scene with this huge shadow of this lamp .. I waited some minutes (smoking a cig' once more) that somebody typical, not a tourist, crossed this compo ... and "clic" ;-)
Marrakech is definitively a photogenic city, a lot of situations can be found by photographers, a true pleasure for a TE member as i am :-) This city is a jewel

Cette ombre format géant crée presque un cadre pour la passante. Il s’agit d’une composition très épurée qui offre beaucoup d’impact.

superbe encore une fois. Le Maroc t'as bien inspiré... on sent la nonchalence, dûe aux fortes températures, le temps qui passe doucement, contrairement à Paris ; )

That long shadow cast by the street light is fantastic, and I really like how it cuts diagonally across the frame; very dramatic.
It's interesting how the man is casting a much smaller shadow, probably because he is so close to wall. Still, I would have expected his shadow to be longer.
This is a superb shot, simple and graphic. Well done.
I visited Morocco back in '93, and seeing your shots makes me want to go back. Maybe next winter.

Merci Sébastien pour cette prise dûe à ta patience et à ton oeil de photographe. J'aime beaucoup la lumière qui rase le mur pour en révéler sa texture. La couleur dominante est superbe. L'ombre projetée sur le mur est très graphique mais le passant donne tout son charme à la photo. C'est du très grand art.

Sebastien, good you had a smoke, it is sometimes worth to have this habit :) and gives extra moments to relax and reflect, or wait for the magic moment to come. And it did! I just love this strong red-orange giving strength and energy. The street lamp reflecting is of course an eye catcher but above this the person walking into your photo turns the whole scene into a wonderful special atmosphere. Excellent. Barbara.

The texture of that wall is simply amazing. It is so sharp that I have been looking at it for quite a long time. That shade is impressive in size and very interesting how it decreases in definition towards the lamp end. Very good job Sebastien.

Tu as raison : Marrakech est une ville superbe ...
ta série "ombres" est très réussie : bravo. L'ombre dessinée ici par la lampe est très harmonieuse, l'homme est sobre jsute ce qu'il faut pour ne pas trop occuper la photo et le mur...est comme de l'argile travaillée à la main, du modelage, en somme. Je suis admirative du rendu de ta photo à ce sujet : chaque trace sur le mur est mise en valeur.

WOW, I see you definitively finished the repetitive element phase and now jumped into the shade theme. Absolutely great stuff, Sebastien. You are reaching a new dimension and I love it! That shade seems alive and ready to take a new victim that is approaching slowly, but wait that person seems pretty aware of that danger and has some surprises under its tunica. That will be an interesting battle. I hope you got some pictures of it ;-)
Are you sure that you were smoking cig and not anything else ... ? At least the images look ethereal, from another world - not the marroquin world.

Wow, this composition is so simple and so stylized it jumps off the screen. Working with a shadow and then a Muslim woman covered in black walks into the scene and just immediately adds life to the abstract image. Good job of waiting for the right moment. Did you pre-visualize this image or did it just happen? Anyway, well done!

J'ai beaucoup admiré cette série marocaine et la découverte de cette superbe ville que doit être Marrakech.
Mais je t'avoue que je suis tombé sur le cul en découvrant celle-ci. C'est pro comme coup d'oeil, minimaliste et mntrant l'essentiel de ce qu'il y a à voir. Chapeau bas l'artiste. Du génie.

It's all been said before, but I personally think this is the best wall shot ever. That shadow is amazing. Soooo long. The woman looks so mysterious, almost like a ghost. The framing is nice and neat with even spacing between the edge of the shadow and the light on both sides.

Terrible ! J'adore évidement le jeux d'ombre et la perspective fuiante de cette dernière, la compo est parfaite, mais la matière du mur m'interpel vraiment, je trouve que le bosselage et l'ocre et les jeux de relief apporte une dimension supplémentaire à l'ensemble. Franchement, elle me scotch cette photo !!
PS : le portrait du breton, c'est Philippe Robidou, ex gamain en folie...

Je suis béat d'admiration devant cette photo.
Elle est vraiment sensationnelle.
La lumière rasante , la couleur principale avec des reflets dorés imperceptibles, les ombres bien sûr, la diagonale de celle du lampadaire, l'élément humain. Tout y est.

Ouau!! J'ai rate quelques superbes photos a toi pendant mon absence. Cest vraiment incroyable le contrast et la forte lumiere ici. L'ombre semble sorti d'un film de fantasie, cest vraiment une de tes mieurs.

desole je ne peux pas te mettre de points je crois que j'ai atteint ma limite quotidienne....
qu'en au fait de shooter face au soleil , ce n'est pas si dure que ca contrairement a ce ke beaucoup dise mais c'est personnel, perso , je travaille en prio diaphragme et j'ai juste a regler la profondeur de champ , la difficulté est peut étre dans l'endroit ou on met le soleil sur la photo mais je ne m'en rend pas compte car je n'y fait pas attention...

TRÈS réussi. Il y a beaucoup d'éléments: Le personnage, son ombre, la lampe et son ombre et finalement le fond d'une couleur tout à fait spectaculaire. C'est très habile d'avoir vu tout ça.
