Trkearth is advertising for a competitor You can see an advertisement on Fotopedia. I visited and I found very interesting. The design is totally different, not criticism, but only votes on the photos published. Picture quality is good in terms of definition. I published a picture with a number of pixels greater than TE |

I don't know if Fotopedia is a competitor or simply another photo site with similar aims. Interest in one doesn't mean no interest in the other. One thing I did like was the ability to post larger dimensioned images as this does help to retain fine detail better. The only image I viewed at its maximum size was still only 350kb but was viewable at virtually full screen. That is one feature I really would like to see implemented here.

I posted an original picture in Flickr first
Flickr resize it at 1024 x 946 pixels with 456 Ko http://www.flickr.com/photos/didi45/4158672940/sizes/l/ The I imported it in Fotopedia who resize it at 788 x 728 pixels at 440 Ko. We are not obliged to reduce our pictures ourselves |

Beware: Bigger size means higher chance of the image being stolen. I'd strongly suggest putting in a 'good' watermark to protect yourselves.

Fotopedia discourage the use of watermarks and you can't use any frames or borders.
So if Trekkers want to post on this site, you have to think about it before, because now, I have to reframe the 60 photos I have posted already, before posting them all over again. It's a nice website, very well done, with a cool logo and good presentation. I don't think it's a competitor neither; just a different approach with a different mission. The guys behind that are very professional and dedicated. |

I am just learning how to use it
First impressions there is no direct contact with other members, no critics to write and no point. Just the vote possibility in fotopedia or by using Facebook Possibility to import your pictures from Flickr I did not find yet if there is a forum. But I consider this site very interesting |

I'm following you all, mates. I've joined two weeks ago and find it very interesting. The brain behind Fotopedia, JM Hullot is a fellow of TE, his user name i vincz.
I think we will have much fun on fotopedia, too. But my main community is TE. Have a fine day Hartmut |
