Hello Pierre,
It's a magnificent tomb, so I wonder what important man was interred here. The craniums remind visitors of what to expect of their own future. A well taken photo with nicely managed light.
I may be mistaken, but I can't remember seeing any of the marvellous mosaics in any of the many photos you have posted from this church. In my own memory those 5th century mosaics were among the highlights of my visits to Rome.
Regards,
Gert

Hi Gert,
I found two photos taken in Rome regarding mosaics, I think you mean the mosaic covering the floor. Photo #1554682 and #1569294 I also have other photos showing some mosaic but it is not the main subject of the photo. Regards. Pierre |

Hello Pierre,
Those two mosaics are from another church. But take a look at Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santa_Maria_Maggiore and scroll down a bit until you find the mosaics. They are fantastic, so you couldn't miss them. Have you somehow mixed up the names of the churches you visited? Regards, Gert |

Hi Gert,
I did not mention the church that I took the photo of the mosaic. I did not take photo of the mosaic ay the Santa Maria Maggiore basilica. The photo of my post where taken at the St.Jean-du-Latran basilica. When I wrote the original post I should have mentioned the church. Regards, Pierre |

But did you actually visit the real Santa Maria Maggiore and didn't see the mosaics that are among the finest in the world?

Hi Gert,
Yes, I did visit the Santa Maria Maggiore basilica ithe late afternoon of March 25, 2018, between 1545 and 1615. I probably saw the mosaic, I did not take photo of them. On March 25, I left the hotel around 0815 toward the Spanish steps then walking a lot around Rome, finishing at the Santa Maria Maggiore basilica and waliking bagk to the hotel for supper. Regards, Pierre |

Dear Pierre,
I have no right of any opinion on your sightseeings, but you seem to take photos of practically every item in every church you visit, but you "probably" saw some of the finest mosaics in the world and didn't take any photos. Wow! Have a nice week, Gert |
