Default To delpeoples: Oysters

Hello Lisa,

Thanks for stopping by again. I hope all is well on your end.

About oysters and NYC, from the city's early days until the 1920's, oysters were extremely abundant and popular here. Slowly pollution and over-harvesting lowered the supplies. There are still several oyster bars in NYC, though.

There was a book written completely about this subject: "The Big Oyster: History on the Half Shell", by Mark Kurlansky.

I guess he found quite a lot of NYC oyster history to document!

Have a good day!
