View from the palace terrace, out to the city skyline with the mosque dominating, Gert.
Must be a different sight now, but who would travel there...
As always, excellent scanned pictures.
Have a nice new day,
Ike

Hello Ike (and Gert too),
It is not different after 50 years, What could be changed there, in the historic square? Who would travel there ...me. You can compare the views in my post today. Best regards MAlgo |

Hello everyone,
I think the square looked quite different during my 1996 visit. The buildings were, of course, identical. But the square itself looks different, more beautiful, in Gert and Malgo's photos. With large trees or smaller trees, sometimes with a water basin. All that was absent in 1996. Just a big stone square with a lawn somewhere on which people picnicked. Was it because the country was still recovering from the years of war with Iraq and there was not enough money to beautify the famous square? I do not know. The past years of war were then something that had caused a trauma in society. The buildings remain through the decades (or centuries), but I find the square a lot more attractive in Gert and Malgo's photos and not as naked as when I saw it. Who would want to travel there? At the moment I don't. But Iran remains one of my most favourite places in the world. Kind regards, Paul |
