The real meaning of what became smileys on TE :

+0 please stay away
+1 I'm a wise guy, I don't really need your comments
+2 let's have fun in exchanging

pity that new members experience this only after some time of illusions,
only comments and WS can make still a difference although it gets infected too.

the +0 or +1 became ballast to the spirit of TE nowadays
this was already noticed in the forums two years ago,
even in the TOS it is mentionned, TE is not about points
a system of points never served members but itself.

I'm happy to see that more of us don't care about the meaning of those smileys! I agree, many members don't 'dare' to criticise because they don't wont to loose popularity, which is completely stupid... I think something should be done to make those people criticise honestly. Because what's the point of any not honest critique? But how to change this? It's sad that some people make a problem of this, while in fact it's valuable to be criticised honestly! For me, and for many more members, the most important goals of TE are to learn about the world and to learn about photography! It's all about helping each other! :)

Hi there

Your comments are strong if you have a lot of points only, for sure !
Sometimes, a lot of famous members don't understand we note with one point cause' the picture don't have to be in TE for example but in TL....In that case, the reply is always a "bloody" reply....so, I think all critics and comments are not really objective regarding all members....

I think that specific TE member has an issue with being critiqued ;-).

If it needs improvement, it needs improvement. And what is better then learning about that? I mean; I would like to know, since otherwise I would just keep on posting crappy photographs and thinking I'm 'da bomb' in photography - since everyone would be giving shallow comments like 'Awesome dude!', 'Really nice etc...'. So I like to learn.

And if you would like to grow in your hobby or in your work as a photographer, you should embrace those light green and slightly unamused looking smileys.

Well, that's my 2 cents.
Greetings! Dennis

To Thomas; What you describe there about getting a personal message of an angry TE member about a 'NR' smiley is just insane! That is so totally against the spirit of TrekEarth and to me the only right thing to do is to disactivate this member.

Could be that your comments could have been phrased nicer. But making it a personal vendetta against you is just totally mad.

Greetz, Dennis
