Great tyro 2013-09-10 5:42

Hello Les,

This is a striking and very beautiful image which was very well seen and very well taken. Just the thing to brighten our spirits at this time of year when we can feel the evenings and nights starting to get darker and colder!

Your photograph is delightfully composed, the lone flower standing upwards agaist the setting sun while all the others smilingly turn their faces towards you.

Lovely light and colours, excellent light management and exquisite depth of field and sharpness.

Kind Regards,

P.S. On a techical note, I am curious to know how you managed the light here. Did you use a graduated ND filter to darken the sky/lighten the foreground flowers or did you do this later in Photoshop - perhaps using layers?

Smile To tyro: Sunflower Sunset

Hello John, you are of course on the right track,I did use a Lee ND 0.9 Grad filter on the sky to try and keep it from blowing out completely!
Kindest regards Les.
