Dear TE friends,
In September, I'll be traveling to New York City and I MIGHT buy some stuff dealing with photography... probably not anything too expensive, but... you'll never know! Well, five months to go, but I thought it could be helpful for me to ask you all what I could buy (filters or anything else) in order to get better pictures from the very start (before pp)! Well... I'm here waiting for the answers! My warmest regards, Neyvan ![]() |

Hi Neyvan,
well it all depends on what your equipement already is and what sort of photo you're after...anyhow, two shops are worth checking in NY: Adorama and B&H. I've recently been to NY and brought back a prime 50mm f/1.4 for my Pentax at an unbeatable price compared to France. Still, I noticed that the prices are not always interesting, it definitely depends on which lens. So make sure you check the prices in your country before considering... |

Thank you for the good piece of advice, my friend!
I'll be doing that, checking what I'd like to buy here in Brazil and compare the prices when I'm in NYC. Of course, there might be a chance I find something worthwhile! Cheers, Neyvan ![]() |

If indeed you can go to Adorama and B&H stores and they a fraction of what is available on line that would be great. You could go in with a shopping list.
If you don't already have them, I would look at good quality filters. I won't do without a Polarizing Filter. I use a circular B+W Polarizing filter (always on the camera) and a square 2 stop Corkin Gradient filter with holder. These can be pricey to get good ones. I would stay away from Sigma polarizers (and probably some others) - they seem to produce a color cast. A good sturdy tripod will probably last you a lifetime. I really like my Manfrotto 190X ProB with a quick mount adapter. Its a bit heavy, but quick to set up and very sturdy. Tamarak makes a really nice tripod case. Have Fun, ........
