Default What is wrong with the Cannon 18 - 55 kit lens

Everywhere I read comments of people talking badly about the kit lens that womes with the 350D.

Is it really that bad? Could I do with it until I decide for something else?

ANyone who has it can you please tell me your experience?

It's slow, not as sharp as other Canon glass and it's slow, slow, slow. f/5.6 @ 55mm...but than how much can one expect from a $100 piece of cheap glass?

Get the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 as your first lens.

If this can help, I'have started a discussion about choice of lenses for the 350D or 20D and so I went to a FNAC store in Paris and did some simple testing. Check this message from which you'll have access to the result of my test.
In those test I've compared different lenses and the Canon 18-55 kit lens is not the best but it is not worst either.
