Great jean113 2020-07-13 12:38

Hello Paul, three informative pictures.
In the main post the boardwalk leads us straight into the heart of the picture, but with no handrail it looks as if it could be a little precarious!
Like Beverley, I do wonder how long the stilts, being made of wood, will last.
These particular houses look quite modern and strong.
Thanks for sharing, kind regards, Jean.

Default To jean113: Handrails and stilts

Thank you Jean,

There is usually a handrail at a bridge, not at a normal walkway.
The houses on the right in my main photo are indeed built more recently.
Which I did not expect in advance, there's still new construction in a water village. Also in another and bigger village on stilts that I've visited in Brunei.
Some people have lived there all their lives and do not wish to live otherwise.

I have no idea how long the stilts last. But there exists a tropical wood that lasts under water for a longer time.
Venice was even built on pine and oak posts.

All the best!
Paul
