Great ikeharel 2022-04-11 22:12

Hello Paul,
"Quicksand" is most adequate term to describ a dune. Sahara-like dunes in Belgium seems as whole different from what I had in mind when thinking about Benelux countries, and Europe ar all.
Wonderful main photo, neat wind-marks and a glimpse of the sea in deep blue.
Have a nice new day,
Ike

Default To ikeharel: The dunes

Thank you Ike,

Perhaps I should put what I showed in perspective.

Belgium has a coastline of only 65 km.
In addition to a few ports and marinas, this coastline consists of sandy beaches and a number of seaside resorts.
The share of the dunes in the total coastal landscape is quite limited.
Moreover in the past, a large part of the dunes was lost to be built on.

Now the dunes are a protected nature reserve. What remains is only a quite small area, but every coastal municipality has a small area with dunes.

So what I showed is rather small in size. You should certainly not think that there are vast dune areas in Belgium.
The Netherlands, which has much more coast, also has larger dune areas. Luxembourg, of course, has none.

Kind regards,
Paul
