Evren is there any reason to prefer the 28-70L f/2.8 over the newer 24-70L f/2.8 ?
Welcome to Canon Narayan !

Hi Jean,

thats a bit debatable issue, both have minuses and pluses. Miranda have good reviews about lenses generally, have a look:

btw, when i mentioned the 16-36L f/2.8, i meant the new one, II. version which is released recently.. Claude Renault has this new one, an excellent lens imo..

thx, cheers.

you tried the 24 f/1.4?
I know someone having made the switch (1DsMkII) and complaining about this lens, being only good at 2.8...

How much the 70-200? ;o)

Yeah, the Nikkor 28mm f/1.4 is a superb lens - I was lucky enough to borrow one once. It's been discontinued now though, and the second hand prices for mint examples can be higher than what it cost new.
I love using primes, and the lack of any fast wide-angle primes is the main thing that bothers me about the Nikon lineup at the moment. Nikon aren't stupid though - we wanted full-frame, we got it, we wanted better high ISO performance - we got it. Having discontinued the fast 28mm, I'd be very surprised if they didn't bring out an updated replacement in the near future. Possibly fast 24mm and 35mm lenses as well.
They can't manufacture everything at once though - at the moment their priorities are the new zooms and tele lenses that were recently announced. That's what the market wants - primes are unfortunately a minority interest. Fast primes are coming though - we'll just have to wait a while.
Speaking from my point of view, I can afford to wait - photography is just a hobby for me. If I was earning a living from my photography and needed fast glass today I'd jump ship to Canon in a second, much as it pains me to say it!
The 35mm f/1.4 AIS - one of Nikon's all-time classics - would be a killer with AF-S! That's what I'm waiting for...

I was referring to myself, okay? Sure you might be young, Evren, I dunno, but still surely quite a bit older than our young friend Narayan here.
And then I was thinking "Maybe the reason Evren switched to that M8 is by consideration for his age, you know..not wanting to carry too much around, LOL!"
I can see that I was wrong ;o)

I would definitely stay away from 35/2 and 50/1.4. Tried multiple copies of each, and always had AF problems. One copy of 35/2 couldn't focus to infinity for instance. You may be in for a suprise when it comes to Canon quality control. Good luck!
