In some places in Turkey you can see even pagan temples underneath. There is a good example in Ankara: first a Phrygian Temple to the "moon god Men" in 7-4th century BC; later a Hellenistic temple to an unknown deity, later the famous Augustus Temple, then converted into orthodox church, then into a mosque. Now temple stands as a monument, still with its original marble walls, but with an apse, remnant of the church, with the mosque of "Haci Bayram" using the same wall just next to it.
So there is a continuity in the sacred land and building usage and
