There is almost an organic quality here that reminds me of a a Fibonacci spiral inside the shell of a univalve mollusc! Or maybe it is a representation of the DNA molecule. Whatever, it is a most artistic photo, Bulent. A wonderful composition that Escher would surely have loved, as I do!

Hi Amelia,
When you look down from the top of a circular staircase (or conversely, if you look upward), that perspective will produce a logarithmic spiral. Light houses present lengthy windings. In the case of this one and Vatican Museum, in a sense there are a pair of intertwined helical spirals, in the manner of the DNA structure.
