Great itchymacnitt 2009-05-07 14:28

Hi Wini,
Stooks, that's an old word and that's what they are, :)
Work would have started at sunrise and finished at sunset and not a hand turned on a Sunday (if it rained it was supposed to have rained). If you were lucky you might have got a bottle of beer when the work was done as a thank you. Not much has changed apart from that the labour has been taken over by the tractor and Sundays? well they just another day now.
Nice scene and well captured.

Default To itchymacnitt: drink

Trev, there'd have been no beer in my grandmother's day (1930s - she did teach me how to suck eggs, but I wouldn't try it now!). She organised the aunts into taking out milk and farls of soda bread, spread with freshly churned butter, for the men in the fields at midday.

BTW are you by any chance related to my dentist in Dunbar, Gareth Forde from Coleraine?

Winifred
