Re: Is "Copy-Paste" allowed? What's your opinion?
Hi Daniel,
I've been seeing more and more of this in the past year and it seems pretty clear to me that it is outside the TE TOS. I'm not a "purist" by any means and use Photoshop to post-process...

Re: No Notes
Hi Austin,
I agree fully but it looks like the optional nature of notes is here to stay as it is unfortunately delineated in the TOS. I have submitted several suggestions on mandating notes with...

Re: To rgarrigus: ciao Bob..
Hi Camillo,
You can always get something like Gimp. It allows you to do all the simple stuff I did but its free :)
Cheers!

Re: Random button
Hi Jeff,
Actually, they sorta do have a button like that. Once you've given a number of critiques here on TE (I forget the number) you'll notice a star appear next to your name. Click on that and...

Re: To rgarrigus: HDR
Hmm,
Yeah the clouds in that lighter version are really stunning so it's almost a shame to darken them. I am going to try a workshop later today and see if I can combine the two but keep the...

Sharpening
Camillo,
I forgot to mention that I sharpened the image slightly. I ran three passes using the sharpen tool at 30% strength and .3 radius. I find that that usually works pretty well for this size...

Cameras during take off and landing
Hi Neyvan,
The only electric devices that are not allowed during landing and take off are those that emit a signal. Most airlines are even OK with laptops provided they don't have a wireless NIC...

Switzerland
Hi Ann,
We'll spend a night or two on Lake Geneva near (but not in) Montreux. We'll then spend another week or so in the Grindelwald area. This is a hard one to plan for (photographically...

Re: Fantasy on ice.
Hi Guy,
Glad this was OK. To be honest, I sometimes like the blue cast better so it can all come down to what you want to convey really.
The sharpening technique I find that works best for...

To fulvio52: Lens Distortion
Nope,
This is caused by tilting the camera up slightly to fit the entire dome in. You won't get barrel distortion like this on an 18-55mm lens at 24mm mate unless there is something seriously...

Re: To rgarrigus: thanks!
Hi Linz,
Brill! Always better to try a few different formats during the shoot though as cropping after the fact reduces the amount of image data and thus the size of prints you can make. If you're...

Travelling
Hi Oscar,
Well, I think it all comes down to planning. I travel everywhere with my family including children now 7 & 8 and you can still find time to be places at the right time and not ruin the...

Re: macro lenses
Hi Ahmed,
I have the same Canon 100mm lens as Dan. I chose it over the shorter focal length so I could have a bit more room between the lens and my subject. Tokina is a very reputable off-brand...

Photoshop?
Hi Greg,
Do you have Photoshop? Elements about as powerful as one might need and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I'm happy to send my specific post-processing work-flow for you if you think it...

Re: How to get Points?
Hi Daniel,
Belated welcome to TE!
Points were innocently intended to be a measurable way that people could rate an image posted to TrekEarth along with a narrative critique. Somehow though the...

Hi Simon,
HDR is completely imperceptible to my eye and looks great. I have a decent enough monitor and it is color-calibrated. Have you calibrated yours?
This would be a nice print I think.

The lean can sometimes add to then image like you said and I have done it deliberately myself. Sometimes it is possible to fix only a section if you want to but that takes some experimentation.

Given the cropping I had to do here the branches left in the upper right might best be removed using the healing brush or clone tool.
