actually the sky was so saturated that it was banding on the left so i used a 54 pixel gaussian blur, the black at the edge of the building is due to some of the building being in the sky selection...

sharpening an image means you are trying to improve the focus with some sort of computer processing. say an unsharp mask. if you sharpen too much you get artifacts and edges that look sharper than...

i don't recall for sure but i think that the only sharpening i did was what is done by noise ninja. i thought about sharpening the rocks but i think i decided not to. glad you like the pic.
