To plimrn: Murray River

Dear Pat,

Can't say I've actually been to SA, but it's definitely one and the same Murray - Australia's longest river I think - that wends its way through most of three states.

Thanks for your...

To macondo: Thanks!

Dear Andrew,

Thanks very much for stopping by, for giving me a couple of points...and most of all, for answering a question I've never quite dared to ask! Friends spent a lot of money to buy me a...

Re: To sayan911: Workshop

Sorry - didn't see before now that you had replied!

Thanks for the idea.

I must admit, in the interim I have found and downloaded an interesting program called Irfan View which I am using to do...

To I_WanderingSoul: Sharpness

Thanks for looking Neelima.

The lake was indeed beautiful, much better in the failing sunlight.

I'm not sure if lack of sharpness is a valid criticism for that very reason; it's the haziness...

Re: Workshop

Dear Luc - I have only just noticed your work on more than just this photo.

Thank you so much for giving these so much attention!

I am slightly more than a novice at Photoshop, but only...

Workshop

Thanks so much for the workshop, Lucky Alain...

I must admit it was a personal choice - but I rejected the auto colours and contrast features on Photoshop as I wanted to emphasise the winteriness...

To sayan911: Workshop

Thanks for the workshop Sandip.

It's a personal thing but I'd have to say that the seapray and mist on the rocks, i.e. the haziness, is entirely the reason this area is charming and unique.

Thank you so much for your kind critique.

Needless to say I think I was very lucky last night!

I'll be sure to have a look through some of your recent work too!

Best wishes,

James

To edge: Foreground

Thanks so much for a constructive critique.

The foreground is of course volcanic lava due to the valley lying beneath the tectonic rift, so I felt it added to the uniquity of the shot.

Needless...

To ls7902: Thanks

Thanks so much for a helpful critique!

You're quite right to say they had winter much earlier this year, apparently most snow doesn't arrive until mid-December.

Nevertheless, we felt it was...

To triptych2003: Thanks

Thanks for stopping by, and for your critique.

Going to have to beg to differ I'm afraid...I think the alternative (i.e. brown) colours and texture in the foreground is entirely what makes the...

To LNE: Thank you

The workshop is excellent (I uploaded this before I learned how to use the despeckle tool), thanks very much. As you say it is regrettably a scan from a poor quality handy 35mm camera.

You will...

Thanks very much for stopping by.

Many have picked me up on the horizon before; I personally blame my crooked eyes...!

The workshop takes it slightly too far the other way!

Thanks a lot for...

To shirgold: Many thanks!

Hello Shir,

Thanks for taking notice of what amounts to one of my favourite images that I've taken! At the risk of being a bighead - I couldn't believe no-one had noticed before! It's better than...

...but regrettably, once more there was no piece of driftwood worth bending down for, or I probably would have.

Instead, more bloody tourists, seawood and big piles of doggy dos. Which may...

To fijiphil: Thanks

Regrettably, although I accept your observations - there is usually a reason for cropping out the foregrounds in the pics I've taken. For instance - I'm allergic to people in my shots, and this...

The 'failings' are entirely explained by old cameras and film, and only partially resurrected with the judicious use of Photoshop...

Nevertheless thank you for appreciating that the Ilala is a...

Yeah, I should have mentioned that I took the brightness down a notch and turned the contrast up, having cropped out a tree from the right. I shall look out for your workshop soon, also at some of...

Yes - as fuzzy before as after - this is the legacy of a point-and-click camera and no formal grounding in photography or Photoshop! I've done my best to improve it and have no doubt at all that...

Agree that sharpening is the order of the day, just beyond hitting Sharpen on the Filter menu I'm not really sure how to do this. (Gaussian blur and stuff like...
