    Hi Gert
Indeed there is a lot happening in this street. You would think that food and garbage don't go together but, in fact, they are often two different aspects of the same process. Well timed to capture the man wearing bright orange trousers throwing stuff in.

    Hello Kasia

Is your title a sly nod to Van Morrison's "Into the Mystic"? Love this understated image, as far from a postcard as it's possible to get at this place. Did you get my email? Couple of months ago now...

    Hello Gy

Still at it, then? I haven't been able to log on for months, and have pretty much lost enthusiasm for this site... I echo Gert's comment about the slight under-exposure, and agree that it works really well: who needs bleached highlights?

    Kind regards

    Hello Kasia

Good heavens: a pretty postcard! And very pretty, too. The colours are almost overwhelming, and if I didn't know you better, I'd be thinking that you gave Nature a little helping hand! Super shot as a conventional but thoroughly superior landscape. Thought about maybe 1/2 stop less exposure (which would beef up the saturation even more, so maybe not!)?

    Kind regards

    Hello Mariusz

Without the reflected light, this would be a pleasant enough urban scene, but with it, it becomes significantly elevated. If I wanted to sound pretentious I might refer to its potential symbolic implications. But I don't! Suffice to say that it's a fine photograph (with maybe too much roadway included in the foreground?)

At first I thought it was a school classroom! Another beautiful monochrome image of all those expectant, interested and slightly quizzical faces. I particularly enjoy the contrasting smile on the face of the older girl on the left.

    Poor Gert!
But the weather looks similar to what we've got in S. England, though I have to say yesterday (Christmas Day) was clear and bright - perfect for taking the dog for a long walk. However, we're in lock-down of course, so no friends, and no family get-togethers: son and daughter and grand-son all miles away... So your image does ring bells with me!

Here's hoping for a better 2021. Happy New Year.

    Hello Elaine

Beautiful. I always like black and white, and it's absolutely appropriate for this image. Quiet, contemplative, natural, and seemingly un-posed, even though one of the sisters is looking at you. They're not smiling or playing up to the camera: you have given us an authentic documentary photograph. Thank you and Happy Christmas.

    Hello Ian

This cool image looks as if it were taken in Perisher Valley. Could that be right? I'm with you on the colours and twisted trunks of these remarkable trees. For the record, here's my version of the same theme, probably taken not a million miles from yours. Typical: the HTML link didn't work. This site is getting worse by the day...

Both charming and spectacular at once! The warm light, the well-defined clouds, the sheer rock faces, the slim church spire: this image has all that, and a very elegant composition as well. Nice one.

    Hello Constantino

I've walked over this bridge myself a few years ago when sailing on a delivery trip from here to Brindisi. There can't have been any wind when you took this nice shot: all the yachts fully rigged, but still moored to the quayside. It makes me wonder what they were doing. A holiday hire fleet I assume, as they all look alike...

Rather the opposite: I'm drawn to this sort of picturesque decay. It's sad, but certainly photogenic, and more interesting than a spanking new shiny modern cruise liner. I'm glad you got closer!

    Hello Bev

Memories for me (and for you too probably) of Castlerigg Stone Circle that we visited in the Lake District a few years ago. But you had much better weather when you visited Avebury previously. I seem to remember taking a group of Travel and Tourism students there some years ago. The course they were on was colloquially known as BTEC Going On Trips...

Good composition with the foreground standing stone, and figures in the middle distance giving a sense of scale.

    Kind regards

    Hello Gert

I've been pretty lazy about visiting of late, so have missed a fair few of your postings. But I couldn't let this one go by, probably because it's my favourite black and white! It seems entirely appropriate too, for the almost 30-year old scene, and a street scene too, which of course, should always be in monochrome!! I wanted to say "timeless scene", but that's not only a cliché, but probably not true: I wonder what this street looks like today...

    Hello Craig

Fine, crisp shot, well worthy of your 100th post from India, and of course a vital location to visit. I like what you like about it: an unusual view of a familiar place (familiar even though I've never been there), and the natural, not too-saturated colours. Morning light maybe?
