Workshop Note

Cautiously applying a bit of contrast masking, I tried to level the brightness a bit throughout the frame. I think it's more visually appealing this way, although a bit of mood and drama may have been lost. What do you think?

This was the process to achieve the dark room contrast masking effect:

1. Duplicated the original layer
2. Put the duplicate on top of the original layer
3. Desaturated the duplicated layer
4. Inverted the brightness of the duplicated layer
5. Applied Gaussian Blur to the duplicated layer
6. Set the layers' blending mode to overlay
7. Reduced the opacity of the duplicated layer to ~30%, to control the effect on the original photo.
