The Jizera or Izera Mountains are part of the Western Sudetes on the border between the Czech Republic and Poland.
The weather conditions are characterized by above-average annual precipitation. On 30 July 1897, the measuring station at Nová Louka recorded a daily precipitation amounting to 345.1 mm (13.6 inches), still an unbroken European record. The Jizera Mountains are an attractive location for winter sports, cycling and hiking. (5 photos)

When we headed over to the Oregon Coast for the trip back to San Diego, the weather had cleared to beautiful scattered clouds and sunlight. However, when we awoke the next morning, in North Bend, a town just north of Coos Bay, the weather in was solidly rainy. We decided to change the goal of our trip from photos to a Crab Crawl; seeking one of the tastiest crabs, the Dungeness crab. (3 photos)

A long weekend in Valencia gave us the opportunity to enjoy first of all its nice climate, even in winter. Then we loved to walk in its beautiful streets and monument. We finally remained speechless in front of the wonderful futuristic architecture created in the city of Arts and Science, most of which were designed by Santiago Calatrava, one of our favorites modern architects. Paul and I drove up Friday from East Lansing all the way to Munising and hiked to Lake Superior with three other friends: Kyle, Alex, and Andy. On the beaver lake trail, mosquito falls trail, and chapel falls trail, there were beautiful waterfalls, the pictured rocks, beaches, fall colors, and Lake Superior. We camped out on the beach Friday night and in the forest the next night. Swimming in Lake Superior on Saturday was a highlight, but it was very cold. Luckily, the sun was out and was warm. We hiked nearly 20 miles and drove nearly 20 hours. (14 photos)

November is maybe not the hottest season on the Canary Islands, but we were definitely not disappointed by our trip.
Spanish Macaronesia includes 7 Canary Isles. We managed to visit only two of them, probably the most representative ones: Tenerife and Gran Canaria and spent one week on each one. Although the islands are usually perceived as a typical tourist destination we can tell that they have also the other side: wild and unknown.... (full story) (13 photos)

Went with the family to the K Bar L Ranch near Augusta, Montana. We went horseback riding, fly-fishing and ate some great food. We also got to swim in a sulfur springs heated pool that smelled like rotten eggs. Our flight back was delayed by an airline strike and we got to stay longer and miss some of the start of school. Hopefully, I will be able to return someday. (3 photos)
