Photographer’s Note

I was driving with a bicycle from Nyaung U back to my guesthouse(New wave guesthouse,6$)on the road to Old Bagan,when I saw this dusty curtain in the distance.
I stopped,changed the lens and did about 30 shots.
This shot shows very well,what you should do every evening after sunset,when you travel in Myanmar.
Clean your camera and lenses!!!
To rent a bicycle there for one day costs about 1000 Kyat(spoken:Chat) for one day,which is about 65 Euro cent.
Cycling is a good way to explore Bagan area,but some pathes leading to nice and very interesting places are very sandy and exhausting to reach with a bike.
At the image you can see a horsecart,there are operating about 220 of them.
For a full day you have to pay 8-10 $,and it`s good to start a trip in the morning,rest at noon at your hostel and start again at about3-4 pm till after sunset(in december 5:45 pm).
Most of the drivers speak english and know nice places for sunsets.
I´ll post more shots of this dusty place.

Two members asked,why they clean the road.
My horsecartdriver told me,the next day will arrive a delegation of the ministary of tourism to visit some buildingsites.And the next evening I saw these VIPs.not by bicycle ore horscart.They where flying with extreme noisy helicopter(looking like about 50 years old) during sunset.
I was told they`ll stay in this hotel
not on my budget.......

Du schreibst uns viel wissenswertes und interessantes. Und Dein Bild mit dem Licht im Staub gefällt mir. Die Blätter geben eine guten Rahmen und es wirkt alles unheimlich natürlich, im Sinne von einfach so aus dem Leben gegriffen. Mal schauen, wie die anderen sind.
Ich frage mich nur, wieviel das Fegen bringt, oder passiert da was anderes? Wie ist das Fahrradfahren in all dem Staub? Hättest Du gehalten, wenn Du es nicht fotografiert hättest?

Wow, this is a winner! I like the mood, the light, and the composition of this image. Three different types of transportation in the image; horse and cart, motor car, and bicycle, what a wide span of technology in the same scene. The dust makes the image. Very nice work on this one, the atmosphere and lighting are tremendous. The portion of tree branches at the top right match the geometry of the swept dust well, and the silhouette of the sweeper is a very strong foreground element. The placement of the cart is nice, leaving the dust behind, and the contextual elements such as the workers at left and the child at right add great depth of significance to the piece.

Hi, Leo. A very well constructed image. The road crosses the image in a diagonal line. The woman and the cart in the foreground create depth. and you were right to stop to make pictures. The light is really great and you manage to keep a good balance between high and low lights.

This is really superb Andreas, I love how the backlighting has highlighted the dust kicked up by the sweeping.
Your composition is also excellent; I like how the line of the road leads in from the corner, and how everything is framed by the overhanging branches of the trees.
The only way I think this could be improved would be to have a bit more space between the roadsweeper and the rickshaw.
An outstanding piece of work, well done.

You know what Leo? This is a classic shot. I've seen a similar shot in TE (maybe from Cambodia)..the light is simply gorgeous, the silhouette is wonderful & without the approaching horse carriage, I think this picture would not have been complete. A perfect picture!

That's a very nice one: the golden reflections of the light on the dust cimbing up from the ground gives the image a wonderful atmosphere. The horsecart and the woman cleaning the street are perfect silhouettes and add dynamism to the composition.

My nose can smell the dust. Nearly sneazing. I think this is agreat success. Visual sitimuli can affect another sensory in this photo. Good experience for me. Thanks.

Hey Leo.

This is just an amazing picture! When I saw this it went straight into my favourites! First of all your composition is just great. I like the positioning of the horsecart here and also the person cleaning the road. But then I noticed smaller things in your composition that really add to the overall picture. Such as the small boy on the right and also the people on the left holding what looks like some sort of tools. Then we have the great lighting here which really adds alot to the picture. I like the way it makes the dust stand out more as this gives a really good effect. I also think the way the person sweeping is a silhouette with the bright lights behind them gives a great impact as well.

I my mind, a completely flawless picture. Thanks so much for sharing this!

Your 200th Myanmar upload was invitation to go through that gallery again, Andreas. I found this shot to be my favourite as yet uncritiqued (by me). I love the flying dust, the see-through effect, the mystery of the veiled sweeper, the roadside shadows talking and that lovely crouched kid in the distance. That's so many great elements here!

But above all it's a picture that spells Myanmar, or Burma, if you prefer. Magic!

What a lively picture of an ordinary day. It is well framed and we can discover lots of interesting detaols (2 women chatting, a young boy playing). The light is fantastic to enhance the broom swepep.
