Photographer's Note

This shot was taken while walking up to the peak called Grosser Mittager (2422 meters), one of the attractive mountains surrounding Merano, my home town.
In the background you can see the peak called Kesselberg (2500 meters), one of the most fascinating places I have ever been. Rhododendrons in blossom were scattered everywhere and created a wonderful view.
In front you can see a fantastic Haflinger horse: an Italian breed named after the village of Hafling, located on the mountains between Merano and Bolzano in Alto Adige. It seems that after the break down of their empire in Italy, the Ostrogots settled down in the village of Hafling and took with them some oriental horses they used for war purposes. These horses started mating with ponies and created the new Haflinger breed. Wonderful animals…
