Photographer’s Note
Another castle in Northumberland, this time the impressive Alnwick Castle.
The first mention of a castle here is in 1096 and in the 1300’s it became the seat of the powerful Percy family who still own the castle. It is currently the second largest inhabited castle in England, second only to Windsor Castle.
There is a great website for the castle HERE that includes a chronological history of the castle against world events.
The castle has been used as a film set on numerous occasions including the recent Harry Potter films.
As for the picture we had been visiting the castle gardens in the morning in brilliant sunshine and as I walked to the castle big black clouds rolled in and I just had time to get a couple of shots with the castle highlighted by the sun before the light went and the rain came down – about an hour later the sun was back again, good old English weather!
Tech: Converted to greyscale, adjusted levels and cropped away some of the bottom to give a more panoramic image.
I think this will be the last B&W as it was fantastic weather most of the time during my trip so time for some blue skies I think.

Well done; the B&W is just right for this kind of subject. The cropping gives the image the right proportions (rule of thirds) and you have added the right amount of contrast PP

Great shot of Harry Potter castle. I think the black and white gives it a nice effect. Thx for sharing!

Hey Graham, yet another great b+w shot, all of yours are so atmospheic and as you say you had good weather which does make a difference!
Good to see the Harry Potter castle is a REAL castle and not a digitally constructed one!
Well taken with the grass in the foreground.
