Photographer's Note

There are so many abandoned subjects all over the great country of Iceland. Even planes.

This was a wonderful surprise! Imagine my delight when I spotted this beauty off the side of the road!

My eyes almost popped out of my head when I saw this plane only about 100 metres off the side of the road. When I got closer, i realized there was a shop/store just off to the side.

It got me thinking I should go inside and ask a few questions first, because I have gotten into some scary situations in the past when exploring on property that I THOUGHT was abandoned.

The owner of this little convenience store/restaurant, also owned the abandoned subjects just outside his front door. His english wasn't very good so I couldn't gather a lot of information, other than he gave me the OK to walk around and take photos.

I wish I could have asked him HOW did he get to collect the old plane, and where did it come from as its got "United States Navy" written on it.
Same with the rusted out old boats and rusted out vehicles, which there were several of them on the property.

It was a very odd setup, the large abandoned rusted out plane was in several pieces, with the engines scattered all over the place. And this was literally steps from his front door. I guess it was a way of advertising for his store (which was very disappointing by the way).

I've added a couple more in the WS if you're interested.

Iceland is full of surprises, especially when you go off the tourist route, as I did here up in the North West region. In this area you can drive for an hour or two and not even see a home or a structure/building. And when you do, chances are its abandoned.
