Sluis Zeeland the Netherlands

The photo shows the east side of the city wall

The Wallen van Sluis form a cultural-historical and area of natural interest that surrounds the city of Sluis.

Already in the 14th century, reinforcements were made to protect the then important trading city. The Spaniards recaptured the city in 1587, but in 1604 the city was taken by the troops of Prince Maurice. Most of the current reinforcements date from this time.

Although part of the ramparts was later excavated, most of it is still intact, just like the canals. In addition, remains of the Westpoort (or: Stenen Beer), the Zuidpoort and the Oostpoort are still present, of which the Oostpoort underwent a thorough restoration in the years 2010-2011.
I hope that you enjoy it
