Photographer’s Note
‘Piran - Red pearl in a blue world’
My 111th post on TE.
When I posted my 100th photo on TE I wasn’t able to announce it (in the title).
It was in the period that TE started with the new website and for a while they didn’t show the titles of the pictures (too bad because I think titles are also important).
Since I’m not patient enough to wait till my 200th post (I post very irregular and too slowly) you find here my 111th picture on this site.
After all I find 111 a very beautiful number. :)
Next time I will do such thing it will be my 1.111th post … but we will all be very old by that time.
Again a photo of one of the most beautiful towns in Slovenia: Piran.
The title refers to the fact that Piran is often called the pearl of the Slovenian Mediterranean.
From this POV you could call the town a red pearl.
In the left corner at the bottom you see a small part of Tartini Square with the town hall.
See my previous post.
And on the hill at the right side you see the Church of St. George and its bell tower from where I took that other picture.
On this photo I added contrast. No saturation.

Bonjour Paul ,
Que ces villes de la côte croate sont belles ! Cette composition est merveilleuse , avec un si beau contraste entre les toits rouges , la mer bleu , et le ciel menaçant . Quelle lumière !
Bravo pour celle-ci , et pour les 110 autres .

Hello Paul,
This is a dramatic shot, from a vantage point that might have been atop the same tall spire. The peninsula, with its sea of red tile roofs, juts into the deep and variegated blue waters of the Mediterranean. Beautiful shot. Happy 111th post, few but quality counts more than quantity.

hi, Paul,
good light control, just little bit "washout" at the foreground. but it makes strong contrast between the deep blue background. framing and composition are also good.

Hola Paul ---------------->
Saludos y feliz tarde.

Wow, what an awesome contrast of colors. You should be quite pleased with being able to capture the red roofed town in bright sunlight while it looks like rain was falling in the distance. It has quite the fairytale feeling. I love it when I see a place on TE I've never heard of and instantly want to visit, like this one. Thanks for sharing!

Dag Paul,
Bedankt.
Prettige dag verder,
John.

You are showing us this town from all the best pov...
I think here the composition is more on the artistic side: only red (roofs) and blue (sea), really essential and well balanced. The town penetrating into the sea creates a strong sense od depth, and strog are the colours and the contrast, resulting in a very impressive and appealing photo.
As a sailor I'm impressed by the wind on the water, at least a force seven, as far as I can judge from here. Probably it was the Bora, the North-East wind which blows in northern Adriatic.
A fine work,
Donato

Hello Paul!
That's a very attractive picture!
The high pov was a very good choice and it was pretty privileged so you could compose this image so beautifully: the city in the bottom part of the picture, with so many architectural details, with the bright sunshine hitting all the buildings and the upper part of the image, with the rough waters of the sea and the coming rainstorm! Even the ship in the distance is important for the composition of this photo!
Sharpness, exposure, dof and colors are excellent too!
I really like it!
TFS - congratulations!
My warmest regards,
Neyvan

Hello Paul. Nice capture by the sea and congratulations on your 111th photo. That sounds more thrilling than posting a 701st photo which will be my next one.
To critique this photo I would have to confess that although full of color and good details, the sea and sky has a much more dramatic appeal than the landmark city on the edge of the sea. I see very little shadows on the buildings, not that it is necessary to see them, but shadows do bring more depth to the scene. Just my take on it....and perhaps wish you could have been there at a different time of day...if that could have fit in with your schedule on your trip. Thanks for sharing.

Bonjour Paul,
Amicalement,

It seems it is raining out at sea, but for now the town is basking in the sun. Your high POV allows us to see the mosaic of rooftops. Your framing works well with the church placed on a 'third'. The town itself is a little over-exposed, but there is no doubt that is because the light was very strong.

Hello Paul -
A nice title for this image. I do like the stormy blue background against the reds and white of the village below. The composition is spot on in my book. My only comment is that I feel some of the whites are just a little too close to OE and are grabbing just a bit too much attention to my eyes. Otherwise, it is a top notch image.
Thank you for sharing.
