Villa de Leyva on Sunday

This is the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Rosario on the Plaza Mayor in Villa de Leyva, a small town at a four-hour drive north of Bogotá.

In the weekend Villa de Leyva is very popular for the residents of the capital of Colombia.
On weekdays it is almost abandoned. The atmosphere is of course quite different then.

My suggestion is that you stay for two days (for the town and the surrounding area).
For example, arrive on Thursday evening and stay Friday and Saturday or arrive on Saturday evening and stay Sunday and Monday. My next upload will show the same square on a weekday.

Villa de Leyva has been founded in 1572 and it has undergone little development in the last 400 years.
The town has preserved much of its original colonial architecture. Its streets and the Plaza Mayor are still paved with cobblestones.

In the workshop: the little guitar player and his pigeon audience.
