Photographer's Note

It was almost at the end of the trip we found this house of a descendants of Dutch immigrants. They had a house with black walls, something is very rare in Brazil, and they were giving a typical Dutch soup to the walkers. The boy is member of the new generation and was posing with the flag for the tourists.

The Dutch immigrants are very important to Brazil despite not so numerous here. They improved the raising of cows to produce more milk and created an industrial branch to produce dairy products. I was surprised because the main Dutch community is located in Castro city, a town located 200 km ahead of Turvo. There is an important Dutch community of immigrants in state of São Paulo where they are famous because the flowers they produce and export and named Holambra (Holland and Brazil).

The first wave of immigrants was in the 19th century when Brazilian Empire wanted European immigrants to increase agriculture. The second wave was after II War when many Dutch decided to live here to escape of poverty and ruins of the war.
