Photographer's Note

Sandhills on North Stradbroke island. The lake gets its' unusual colour, from the tannic acid leaching through from wallum swamps & ti trees.

This was taken towards the southern part of the island, near the 18 mile swamp. Access is by 4wd only, driving along the beach. The old sand mining operations used to extract rutile, zircon, & titanium, from the mineral sands.
