Photographer's Note

Silverton is an old mining town about 1,200 kilometres north-west of Sydney. It is situated near Broken Hill and is located almost on the South Australian border. It crosses a time zone, being half an hour difference from Eastern Standard Time.

The oldest human remains in the area date back tens of thousands of years and are of course Aboriginal from the Wiljakali people. White Europeans did not survey the area until the 1840s and the town was not really populated until 1875 when the first lode of silver was discovered.

Silverton is now a tourist magnet, with many quaint historic buildings and pubs. It is also the location of filming for the original Mad Max films, a museum being there for film fanatics.
