Photographer's Note

This is the Youghiogheny River in Swallow Falls State Park in western Maryland. The Youghiogheny River crosses three states: West Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania and drains into the Monongahela River. I would assume given the spelling that the names are derived from Native Americans. The Youghiogheny River is popular for whitewater kayaking and rafting. It has rapids ranging from II all the way to class V.

The area on my left is a virgin forest of eastern hemlock. The sun was getting pretty low and the shadow was unavoidable even though I was sitting very low. The foreground looks a little out of focus but it's actually from the wind. I've wanted to do another b&w and I thought this one worked well as one. I will post the original color picture for those who would like to look at it.
