Photographer's Note

The sun sets over the mighty Mississippi.

THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER is one of the world's largest rivers. Its source is Lake Itasca in northern Minnesota and it flows generally south for 2,320 miles (3,730 km) to the Mississippi River Delta in the Gulf of Mexico.

The river either borders or passes through the states of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Louisiana.

THIS PICTURE shows the river from the town of Natchez, Mississippi. The Natchez landing used to be one of the last riverboat landings for those travelling south to New Orleans (and the plantations of Plantation Alley just before it). It was a rough sort of place back then. Now it's quite quiet, but still a terrific place to visit.
