Photographer's Note

I was looking through my archives, and this photo caught my attention. It's a simple view from a street in the neighborhood of Soho, and I knew that those faces looked very familiar.

This large, pasted photograph is the work of French street artist and photographer JR. I realized that it's the same photo featured in one of my previous posts entitled "The Immigrants". It's an archival photo from 1908 that JR had included in his exhibit on Ellis Island, the famous processing center for immigrants back in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

These faces really move me, and they seem to be calling out from the past. A man briefly glances at them as he walks by. Immigrants, fellow humans beings, past and present intersecting on a quiet street in NYC...
