Photographer's Note

In Paiute Indian mythology, the jagged sandstone formations of Bryce Canyon were perceived as the ancestral Legend People who turned to rock by Coyote, a deity displeased with their extravagant ways.
The Paiute name for this area means "red painted faces."
You can almost see the warriors fleeing their stony death as they rise up -over 1,000 feet- to the eastern rim of the Paunsaugunt Plateau.
